Cybersecurity Firm Publishes Report on Sophisticated Bank Hack
Kaspersky Lab yesterday published a report describing a wide-scale hack in which “[u]p to one billion American dollars was stolen in about two years from financial institutions worldwide.” The New York Times’ summary of the report noted that “the industry consortium that alerts banks to malicious activity, the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center, said in a statement that ‘our members are aware of this activity. We have disseminated intelligence on this attack to the members,’ and that ‘some briefings were also provided by law enforcement entities.’” The Financial Times quoted an unnamed Kaspersky Lab representative, who said, “It’s not 100 per cent clear at this point whether all the targets were successful or not. … It’s still an attack that’s very much active.” The Wall Street Journal also summarized the report.
