The Economist discusses drones.
Apparently, we’ve come up with using drones for
- Shooting Hollywood movies;
- Surveillance and rescuing;
- Agriculture; and
- Home delivery of Amazon products.
Rescuing people in burning buildings and early identification of agriculture issues is all good, but could we come up with something really useful and cool? How about sending a drone named “Bob” into the center of the Earth to turn down the core temperature just a little so as to help with global warning? Now that would be cool.
I gave my father-in-law a drone last Christmas. He uses to play the Michigan fight song over the heads of Buckeye tennis players at his retirement community.
