WP29 has released a statement underlining the importance of protecting the rights afforded to data subjects. They strive for consistency with the GDPR in light of a purposed review of the processing of personal data by Community institutions, new competencies of the DPAs and restriction of data subject rights by member state laws. They envision the GDPR and legislative reform of Community data processing practices as giving the EDPS and EDPB enhanced enforcement abilities as well as expanded advisory roles. They hope this will result in greater protection for data subjects and consistency in the approaches taken at both the European and Member State levels.
