Dridex, one of the world’s “top online banking fraud cybergang[s],” has “recently stepped up its attacks and added ransomware to its repertoire.” According to a report by computer security company Symantec, Dridex is responsible for “half the financial cybercrime against financial institutions” based on the number of computers the group infects. The gang’s new tool, ransomware, allows them to “lock files and drives throughout [an infected] company’s network, rendering it helpless until it pays a ransom.”
