CNIL to Facebook: Stop Transferring some Data to the U.S.


In addition to telling Facebook to stop transferring to some data to the U.S., the CNIL also instructed Facebook to stop collecting non-user data and serving them personalized ads without their permission (though it's a little unclear which is the chicken and which is the egg).

Facebook states that it does not transfer data to the U.S. via Safe Harbor, but instead uses other mechanisms to legitimize the transfers. The CNIL claims that Facebook does use Safe Harbor.

That is quite the factual dispute!
